Things are humming along with spring activities on the farm. It’s always a good feeling to be finished with the blueberry pruning and cane pick-up. The bushes are moving toward blossom on the early side, a bit ahead of the usual range we’ve seen in the last 10 years. The propagation greenhouse is filled with flower seedlings. It can be a challenge to keep plants at ideal temperatures with spring weather swings. Beth uses my Grandfather’s old farm wagon to load up seedlings that are ready to be hardened off before planting. If it rains or gets too hot or cold she backs it into the shed or barn. In the picture above you can see some anemones growing in crates in the shed. So far we have transplanted Sweet Peas, Iceland Poppies, Lisianthus, Phlox, Sedum and Geum plugs. Of course the field, gardens, lawns and woods get the usual spring clean up. With all the preparations we are definitely feeling the excitement for our opening of the pick-your-own blueberry and flower season in mid-July. We will announce the exact date later.
